The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), a leading research institution in India, is inviting applications for its PhD program for the August 2024 session. This program is tailored for ambitious researchers who aspire to make significant contributions to the fields of disease biology, neurobiology, bioinformatics, and plant science. Program Affiliation and Significance

The RGCB PhD program is affiliated with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), an “Institution of National Importance” established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, under the auspices of UNESCO. This affiliation ensures that candidates receive world-class education, training, and research opportunities.

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: June 26, 2024

  • Publication of Shortlisted Candidates: First week of July 2024

  • Interviews: Second and third week of July 2024

  • Program Commencement: August 1, 2024

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Background:

  • A postgraduate degree in Life, Agricultural, Environmental, Veterinary, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Sciences or allied subjects (e.g., Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Chemistry, Microbiology).

  • A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale or equivalent from an accredited foreign institution.

  1. Fellowship Requirement:

  • A valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, DST-INSPIRE, or any other nationally competitive fellowship valid for five years.

  1. Age Limit:

  • Upper age limit of 26 years as of the application deadline, with relaxations for SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates.

Selection Procedure

The selection process involves:

  1. Shortlisting: Based on overall academic performance and the validity of the JRF.

  2. Interview: Conducted offline at RGCB’s main campus in Poojappura. Detailed guidelines will be provided to shortlisted candidates. The final list of selected candidates will be published on the RGCB website in the first week of July 2024.

Application Procedure

  • Submission: Only online applications will be accepted.

  • Application Fee: ₹500, payable online via SBI’s ‘SB Collect’. Exemptions apply for SC, ST, EWS, and differently-abled candidates.

  • Deadline: Completed applications must be received by June 26, 2024. Incomplete applications or those without the processing fee will be rejected.

Program Fees

  • An administrative fee of ₹5000 per semester for the first ten semesters and ₹10,000 for each subsequent semester.

  • Additional RCB administrative fees are applicable.
